As the slide goes into battery, the barrel and slide are locked together as the barrel hood moves up into the ejection port. A recoil spring, located on a full-length guide rod under the barrel, pulls the slide forward, stripping a round from the magazine and chambering it. Upon firing, the slide moves rearward and a cam on the barrel lug pulls the barrel down, unlocking it from the slide, which continues rearward, extracting and ejecting the spent case. Kahr does offer several models with an external thumb safety and/or loaded-chamber indicator so as to be able to sell their products in states that require such devices.īreech locking is accomplished via the barrel hood bearing on the front edge of the ejection port. There is also an absence of external safety devices on almost all Kahr pistols, which gives them a snag-free exterior, a very nice feature for a concealed-carry pistol.

The triggers on the Kahr pistols I have fired were all smooth, relatively light and stage free. The smooth, light and stage-free stroke is accomplished by means of a system in which a trigger stroke of approximately 0.7 inches rotates a cam that unlocks the spring-loaded striker safety, drawing the striker to full-cock position before releasing it to fire a cartridge. I feel that the DAO trigger on Kahr pistols is one of the primary reasons for their popularity. I really do like it that much.In my opinion, some of the most user friendly of the double-action-only (DAO) pistols on today’s market are made by the Kahr Arms. Barring some asshole stunt from Nobama, I can see myself carrying this pistol for the rest of my life. One of these days I'll spring the $50-$60 bucks and buy wood grips. The factory iron sights are really nice, but I decided to replace mine with XS tritium Big Dot sights.
The trigger is smooth, but being that this is a defensive pistol, uses a rather long stroke. The little MK9 just disappears with the MTAC holster. I use a Galco horsehide holster for pocket carry, but my favorite is the Comp-Tac MTAC IWB holster. The MK9 works well for pocket carry as well as IWB. Speaking of Glocks, the MK9's design shares a number of similarities with Gaston's pistols. 9mm can be pretty snappy in a small pistol, but the MK9 is really easy to shoot. The MK9 is a bit heavy (it's all steel, duh.), but you'll truly appreciate the extra heft if you're shooting more than a few rounds. Wanted something smaller than a sub-conmpact Glock and decided to purchase a Kahr MK9 Elite 2003 a couple of years ago and have NEVER looked back. I've carried a number of guns over the years.
